How much does custom software cost?
Our rate is a flat $150 an hour for senior engineering, and every project gets an upfront estimate before work starts. Typical builds: tools, plugins, integrations, and automations start around $5,000. Web applications, portals, and dashboards start around $15,000. Full platforms, SaaS products, and MVPs start around $30,000.
For comparison, senior development consultancies commonly charge $300 an hour and up for the same caliber of work.
How does billing work?
Simple: $150 an hour against the estimate we gave you upfront, billed as working stages land. If scope changes mid-project, the estimate gets updated in writing before we continue, so the number never moves without you knowing why. One-off projects are absolutely welcome; there's no retainer requirement.
What happens in discovery?
We sit down with the people who'll use the software, map the workflow as it exists today, and pin down the edge cases that break lesser builds. You get a spec in plain language with an hour estimate and timeline, and if you take that spec to another developer instead, it'll still be the most useful document they've ever received.
Do I own the code?
All of it, outright. Source code, repositories, accounts, infrastructure, and documentation transfer to you at delivery. Nothing is licensed back to you, there's no monthly fee to keep using what you paid for, and any competent developer can maintain or extend it after us.
Can custom software really replace my subscriptions?
Often, yes, and that's where the math gets fun. Add up what you pay monthly for the tools a custom build would replace, factor in the price increases those vendors push every year, and a one-time build frequently pays for itself within a year or two, then keeps saving forever. How long does a project take?
Simple tools and automations typically land in a few weeks; complex apps and platforms can run up to a couple of months. Your estimate comes with a timeline and staged deliveries, so you know not just the final date but what lands along the way.
Can you work with my existing systems?
Yes, that's most of what we do. New software almost always has to talk to your CRM, your billing, your inventory, or the legacy tool nobody wants to touch. Integrations are scoped into the estimate from the start, not discovered as surprises later.
What if I only have an idea, not a spec?
Ideas are where most of our best projects start. Discovery exists precisely to turn "I wish something did this" into a concrete plan with an honest estimate. You don't need technical knowledge to work with us; you need to know your business, and you already do.
Who maintains the software after launch?
Your call. Everything is documented and handed over cleanly, so your team or any developer can run it. Most clients keep us on at the same $150 an hour for updates and new features, and there's no minimum or retainer required to do so.
Can you rescue a project another developer left behind?
Often, yes. We'll audit the existing code honestly and tell you whether it's worth salvaging or cheaper to rebuild, with reasons you can understand either way. What we won't do is patch something we know will fail you again.
